Have you ever noticed that when you're considering buying a new car, as you then drive around, you suddenly notice lots of that make of car on the road?

We can use the same psychological features of the human brain to help to achieve your goals, and a team goals.

The human brain only has a certain amount of capacity to process information coming in from our eyes, ears, other senses, and existing knowledge. By guiding our brains what we're looking for, we can help harness the human brain. Team work can multiply this.

If you haven't seen it, it's worth watching this video of "counting basketball passes" to see the power of focus.

If you've never heard of the original experiment to count basketball passes, it's worth watching this one from 1999 by Daniel Simons and Christopher Chabris: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJG698U2Mvo

If you've already seen that one, and think you know the outcome, great. In that case, it is worth watching the updated experiment that Daniel created in 2010 to really challenge your brain: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGQmdoK_ZfY

When I work with management teams, and ICT teams, I often reach the point where I think it's worth encourage them to watch one of them, depending whether anyone in the team has seen them before. I then encourage the team to think about and discuss a range of lessons that can be learned, to help a team work well together to achieve more than any one person can achieve on their own.
